Priest Lake sits about 25 miles from the Canadian border and roughly 30 miles from the Washington line. A lot of the people who come here in July drive in from Spokane, where cannabis has been legal for over a decade, or from Montana, where it has been sold since 2022. So the question comes up, at the boat launch and in our inbox: can you buy cannabis at Priest Lake? The answer is no, and the details matter.

There is no dispensary at Priest Lake

Idaho issues no cannabis licenses of any kind. There is no dispensary in Coolin, Nordman, Priest River, Sandpoint or anywhere else in Bonner County, and none in the state. Any business advertising cannabis for sale at Priest Lake is operating illegally.

The nearest licensed stores are in Washington, in the Newport and Spokane areas. That is a legal market on its side of the line only.

Bringing it across the state line

Cannabis purchased legally in Washington, Montana or British Columbia becomes illegal the moment it enters Idaho. Possession of three ounces or less is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail, a fine of up to $1,000 and, since 2025, a mandatory minimum fine of $300. More than three ounces is a felony.

Transporting cannabis across a state line also violates federal law, and crossing the international border with it in either direction is a serious federal crime in both the United States and Canada. Idaho State Police and county sheriffs are aware that Highway 2 and Highway 57 connect legal markets to the lake.

Medical cards from other states

Idaho does not recognize medical cannabis cards from any other state. A patient from Washington, Montana, Oregon or Utah who possesses cannabis in Idaho is subject to the same charges as anyone else. There is no medical exception under Idaho law.

Hemp and CBD products

Zero-THC CBD products are legal in Idaho and are sold in some stores. Products containing any THC, including full-spectrum CBD oils and hemp-derived delta-8 gummies that are legal in other states, are controlled substances in Idaho. If the label lists any THC, it is not legal here.

What Priest Lake Cannabis Company is

We are a North Idaho brand in development, named for the lake we love. We have no store, no license, no products and no address. We do not sell cannabis and do not help anyone obtain it. What we are building is a brand, a body of honest information about Idaho cannabis policy, and a guide to Priest Lake itself, so that if Idaho ever adopts a regulated framework, there is a local company ready to meet it responsibly.

If that day comes, this page will change. Until then, enjoy the lake. It needs no help. The evergreen answer, kept current as the law changes, lives at Is There a Dispensary in Priest Lake, Idaho?.
