Is There a Dispensary in Priest Lake, Idaho?
Last updated /Priest Lake Cannabis Company editorial team
Short answer
No. There is no cannabis dispensary in Priest Lake, Idaho, or anywhere else in the state. Idaho prohibits marijuana for all purposes and issues no cannabis retail licenses, so no dispensary can legally operate in Priest Lake, Coolin, Nordman, Priest River, Sandpoint or Coeur d'Alene. Priest Lake Cannabis Company is a brand in development, not a store.

Why there is no dispensary in Priest Lake
A dispensary is a state-licensed cannabis retailer. Idaho has no licensing framework because marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance under Idaho Code Title 37, Chapter 27, for medical and recreational purposes alike. Without a license category, there is nothing for a business to apply for, and any store selling cannabis in Idaho is committing a felony. This applies everywhere in the state, with no county or city exception, so Bonner County and the Priest Lake communities are covered by the same prohibition as Boise.
The question comes up because Priest Lake sits close to two legal markets. Washington, about 30 miles west, has sold adult-use cannabis since 2014. British Columbia, about 25 miles north, is part of Canada's national legal market. Montana, to the east, has sold adult-use cannabis since 2022. Visitors from those places sometimes assume Idaho followed. It did not.
Where the nearest legal dispensaries are
The closest licensed stores to Priest Lake are in Washington, in the Newport area near the state line and in greater Spokane. They are legal on their side of the line only. Cannabis purchased there becomes illegal the moment it enters Idaho, and carrying it across a state line is a separate federal offense. Idaho State Police and the Bonner County Sheriff know that U.S. 2 and Idaho Highway 57 connect those markets to the lake.
Idaho also does not recognize out-of-state medical cannabis cards, so a Washington, Montana or Oregon patient possessing cannabis at Priest Lake faces the same charges as anyone else.
What about CBD and hemp stores?
Stores in Idaho can legally sell CBD products only if they contain no THC at all. Products with any detectable THC, including the full-spectrum oils and hemp-derived delta-8 gummies sold in other states, are controlled substances in Idaho. A shop selling zero-THC CBD is not a dispensary and cannot become one under current law.
What Priest Lake Cannabis Company is
Priest Lake Cannabis Company (PLCC) is a North Idaho brand in development, named for the lake. It has no store, no license, no products and no address, and it does not sell cannabis or help anyone obtain it. It exists today as a brand identity, a sourced record of Idaho cannabis policy, and a guide to Priest Lake. If Idaho ever adopts a regulated framework and licenses retailers, PLCC intends to seek licensing in the Priest Lake area, subject to state law, local approval and every applicable regulation. There is no confirmed date for any of that, and this page will change only when the law does.
What would have to change
For a dispensary to open in Priest Lake, Idaho would have to legalize cannabis for at least medical use and create a licensing system, either through the Legislature or a citizen initiative. Neither has happened. On November 3, 2026, Idaho voters will decide HJR 4, a constitutional amendment that would give the Legislature sole authority over legalization; it would not legalize anything. The Idaho Cannabis Legalization Tracker records every development, and Is Cannabis Legal in Idaho? covers the law in full.
